June? Already?

How strange to think that our year together is quickly coming to an end.  What a fun year it has been so far!  June will be no different!  J

The final assessments during these next ten days are all reflected on the report cards.  Please help your child do their best by ensuring good nutrition, good sleep/rest patterns and whatever you find that helps your child to be focused and able to do his/her best!

June 1 is Career Day!  Please help your child to complete their career report on a career of their choice, then help him/her dress up to demonstrate that career for Monday.  Each child will orally present his/her career report (make sure your child brings it back to school Monday) to the class in the morning.  In the afternoon, the kids will work through 6 different career stations, each exploring the activities, materials and tools that a person in that career may use.  It is often a highlight afternoon for the kids.  J

June 2 is messy art day!  Please heed this note – your child will have paint ON them after our project that is styled after the artwork of Jackson Pollock. It is such a fun project that process kids love to do.

June 3 is our Grandparents’ Day Celebration!  The students brought home invitations a month ago to invite a grandparent(s) or special guest(s) to join us at school.  Guests are invited to arrive at 9:40, watch a very small presentation by our class, then accompany us to the Evangel sanctuary for the school presentation.  After the presentation, guests will accompany the students outside and eat the lunches they have brought – picnic style.  When the bell rings at 11:30, the students will say goodbye to their guest(s) and will go play for outside recess and the guests are free to go as the picnic time concludes the program.

Wednesday, June 10 is our Community Field Trip. We will be leaving the school on the bus shortly before 9:00, and spending time at the Art Gallery, the Rotary Centre for the Arts, and Kasugui Gardens, before returning home.  Your child will need a bag lunch this day that can easily be eaten picnic style as we will not return to the school until 2:45.

Thursday, June 11 is our Class Recital.  At 2:15, students will be presenting poetry, stories and ‘other things’!  Please join us, if you can.  After the recital, upon dismissal, the students will be bringing home many of their schoolbooks, artwork and belongings.

June 12 is our Primary Orientation! Grade K, 1, 2 and 3 students will be visiting with next year’s teachers for a short visit on this day.

Tuesday, June 16 is the Year-End School Celebration 8:40-4:00!  All the classes are combined for this fun event.  We will be bussing to Atlantis Waterpark in Vernon for a day of water fun.  This is a great opportunity for the kids to get to spend time with students from the other classes and to enjoy a very physically active day!  J  Due to the waterpark operating schedule, our class hours will be longer on that day.  Please make sure your child is still at the school at the regular starting time, with a towel, bathing suit (preferably already on), lunch, snacks, sunscreen and a bag to carry it all in.  There will be a concession available, but I cannot guarantee that your child will take care of his/her money long enough to use it for lunch.  Please use your discretion.  For those of you wanting to join us, please see me to check if there is still room on the bus, otherwise you are welcome to join us at the park.  Students should have their money in by June 8.  Also, make sure the permission forms are signed and returned, as your child will not be allowed to join us if the permission form is missing.  If you think your child is going to return with a family friend (so he/she can stay later), please understand that you need to go to the office to fill out a special form for that, and your driving friend will have to fill out driver forms.  Otherwise, whoever travels to the waterslides on the bus, returns to the school on the bus.  If you choose to take your own child and meet us there, please indicate so on the form that will come home soon. Thanks.

June 17 is our last All-School chapel.  You are welcome to join us for chapel as we celebrate together!

Wednesday, June 18 is cleaning day, our class party and our last day!  We’ll be washing mailboxes, desks, chairs and shelves, cleaning manipulatives, taking down the wall displays and other odds and ends.  Our class will also be potlucking together, (see food sign-up list,) and then in the afternoon, we will be enjoying some time with just us, enjoying some of our favourite activities from throughout the year and reflecting on our favourite memories.  Report cards will be sent home at the regular dismissal time of 3:00.

Let’s finish the year well!  Please continue to pray for health, final evaluations and the many activities our class is participating in.  J
